His approach

A ceremony that is sacred, personal and understood

A Hindu wedding is not simply a sequence of rituals. It is the spiritual union of the bride and groom, their families and their traditions.

Every important ritual explained

Sanskrit mantras remain at the heart of the wedding. The meaning of each important moment is explained in clear English, with Gujarati or Hindi where appropriate.

Respect for both families

He takes time to understand the customs of both families, so the ceremony can be tailored with care while preserving its sanctity and authenticity.

Calm guidance throughout

Wedding days can be busy and emotional. He calmly guides the couple and family through each stage, so everyone can be present for the sacred occasion.

The Hindu wedding ceremony

What your ceremony may include

A Hindu wedding is rich in symbolism, sacred vows and spiritual meaning. Depending on your family traditions and the agreed format, the ceremony may include:

  • Ganesh Pooja

Prayers to Lord Ganesh, remover of obstacles, so the wedding begins auspiciously.

  • Var Pooja

The groom is welcomed to the mandap and honoured by the bride’s family.

  • Bride & groom entrances

The couple are brought to the mandap, often accompanied by close family.

  • Jai Mala

The couple exchange garlands as a sign of welcome and acceptance of one another.

  • Madhuparka

A traditional offering to the groom, given as a gesture of honour and welcome.

  • Kanyadaan

The bride’s parents give their daughter’s hand in marriage, one of the most moving moments.

  • Hast Melap

The joining of the couple’s hands, symbolising the union of two lives.

  • Vivah Havan

The sacred fire is lit, with Agni as the divine witness to the marriage.

  • Mangal Fera

The couple walk around the sacred fire. The number of pheras varies between traditions.

  • Saptapadi

Seven steps taken together, each with a promise for their shared life.

  • Sindoor & Mangalsutra

The groom applies sindoor and places the mangalsutra, sacred symbols of marriage.

  • Blessings

Parents, family and elders bless the newly married couple.

Traditions differ between communities and families. This list is a guide, not a fixed order. The rituals and their sequence are discussed and agreed with the couple and family in advance.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Will our guests understand what is happening?

Yes. Traditional Sanskrit mantras remain at the heart of the wedding, while important rituals are explained in clear, simple English so that guests understand the meaning behind each moment rather than simply watching it take place. Explanations in Gujarati and Hindi can also be included where appropriate.

Our families come from different communities. Can the ceremony include both traditions?

Every family has its own customs. Before the wedding, Shree Gaurangbhai takes time to understand the background of both families and the traditions that are important to them. The ceremony can then be respectfully tailored, while preserving the sanctity and authenticity of the Hindu wedding.

Do you conduct weddings outside London, or abroad?

Yes. Shree Gaurangbhai is available for Hindu weddings throughout the UK and for destination weddings internationally.

Do we speak before the wedding?

Yes. A consultation by phone before the wedding covers the structure of the ceremony, family roles, timings, entrances and any particular customs, so everyone feels prepared on the day. You can also call with any questions as you plan.

How long does the ceremony take?

Every family is different, and the length of the ceremony depends on the traditions being followed. As a guide, a traditional Vedic wedding ceremony usually takes around 90 minutes.

Who provides the items needed for the ceremony?

Families are given a full list of all the items required for the ceremony. Anything on the list can be talked through with Shree Gaurangbhai, so you know exactly what is needed and why.

Can you conduct a ceremony where one partner is not Hindu?

Absolutely. A Vedic vivah is a union between two souls, regardless of race or religion. The ceremony is explained clearly so that both families, and every guest, can understand and take part in its meaning.
